We are absolutely delighted to be working with Lyme Regis Museum in the development of their brand new Geology Gallery. The new gallery scheme is part of the museums new Mary Anning Wing extension project.
We have previously been working with the trustees of the museum and other team members in the development of their Interpretation and Design Strategy for their Stage 2 HLF bid.
Lyme Regis Museum were awarded £798,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund towards the construction of the Mary Anning Wing, the museum’s much needed £1,400,000 extension. The Mary Anning Wing will provide the 113 year old museum with the services it needs to bring it into the 21st century.
As part of this work, the existing geology gallery will be completely re-designed by Smith and Jones, creating a new accessible gallery that tells the story of Mary Anning and Lyme’s fantastic fossils.
Smith and Jones are a specialist interpretation and museum design consultancy based in the South West, with experience of working on Jurassic Coast projects. We were chosen as the designers of the project, due to our creativity, project experience and recognition that the character of the new geology gallery has to complement the unique and individual style of the museum.
We are currently at the initial stages of the project, developing the content and themes, with the final gallery planned for completion by the end of the year.
