Dare Valley Visitor Centre

South Wales

An educational and interactive visitor centre at Dare Valley Country Park, Britains first country park built on industrial wasteland.

The visitor centre was designed to appeal to children and families through the use of bright colour, visually stimulating graphics and interesting material. The history of the park is explained including, how the valleys were formed, how coal mining affected the landscape and how it has now been transformed into a biodiversity gem.

The large empty space was completely transformed through the use of a series of colourful wall structures. The largest of which, divided the space in two, creating a long graphic walkway.

Much of the exhibition focussed on the park today and how it has been transformed into Britain's first country park built on industrial wasteland. We used birch plywood to construct many of the walls with graphics printed direct to the surface.
