Bristol Faces, Afrikan Footsteps

Smith and Jones worked with a group of young people from Bread Youth Project in Bristol. The teenagers, who are all of African heritage, visited Ghana and curated the exhibition themselves.

The exhibition followed the journey each of the group and allowed visitors to find out more about their journey, who they are and who inspires them.

A series of simple white walls divided the gallery space into themed sections including:

Headphone walls - each group member introducing themselves.

Heroes wall - find out who inspires each member of the group and visitors can leave details of who inspires them.

Response wall - bulldog clips were used to hold and display visitor responses.

Thoughts wall - asking visitors 5 important and thought provoking questions.

Display case wall - displaying objects sourced by the group in Ghana and from the museums archives.

The Sankofa bird identity of the exhibition was created by Smith and Jones as were all the marketing materials such as banners, posters, invites and stickers.
