Behind the paint display

Bristol City Museum

A display designed to educate visitors on the many layers 'behind the paint' on most famous paintings.

Two paintings are set into the display. Thesy are finished to varying degrees along the canvas. From unfinished canvas at the top to the final painting at the bottom.

Visitors are asked to touch the paintings to feel the texture and also get to see the raw pigment in jars.

This effective display was installed as part of the larger Gallery 7 refurbishment at Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery.
