Beer Marine Heritage Centre,

South Devon

The team from the Beer Marine Heritage Centre on East Devon's World Heritage Coast chose Smith and Jones to design and develop interpretive displays to bring visitors face to face with the famous Beer Cliffs and surrounding environments.

We brought the cliffs, right into the visitor centre space through the use of a scaled mock rock face, capturing the textures and colours of the rocks and plant life along the cliffs.

Punching through this rock face, a number of display jars were packed full of chalk, flint, greensand, freestone, shells and rock pool invertebrates. Graphic circles to the front of the jars, helped visitors understand the contents.

A shaped display shelf housed circular display trays, magnifying glasses and additional display jars, the content of which could be updated by the Beer team, dependant on the season.
